Local Area

Kent is often referred to as the Garden of England and away from the Town Centre are many beautiful villages and small towns. Spring is a special time of year in the County with an abundance of lambs in the fields and blossom in the orchards.

Page & Wells operate from 5 prominent offices in Maidstone, Bearsted, Loose, Coxheath and Larkfield. These offices serve the Town Centre and outlying villages, lie within 5 miles of our Maidstone Head office and offer a good coverage of areas N,E,S & W of the Town Centre. We offer a good sales and letting service for property within a 10 mile radius of Maidstone Centre or beyond.

Maidstone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maidstone) is the County Town of Kent and houses the main administrative offices of the Kent County Council. The town straddles the River Medway which flows past Rochester to the North and thence into the Thames Estuary. The River Medway enabled Maidstone to develop as a trading centre where brewing, paper making and cement manufacturing were dominant industries in the area.

Shopping

General Retail. Maidstone is a well established shopping centre, the important retail areas being The Mall (an enclosed centre on 3 floors and shortly to be extended and refurbished), Week Street and the recently completed Fremlins Walk which has the House of Fraser as the anchor store.

Around Maidstone out of town retail areas have developed at Quarry Wood (Maidstone West), Notcutts (Maidstone North).

For those wishing to experience “retail therapy” further afield, Canterbury is 28 miles, Tunbridge Wells is 18 miles and Bluewater Shopping centre is 20 miles approx from Maidstone.

Groceries. In and around Maidstone, all the major supermarkets are represented including Aldi and Lidl.

Motorways

The M20 motorway runs to the North of Maidstone offering access to the M25 to the West and running down to Ashford, Dover and The Channel Tunnel to the East.

A few miles further North is the M2 motorway offering access to the Dartford Crossing to the North East and the North Kent Towns running from Dartford down to Margate and Dover.

Trains

Commuting. Maidstone and the surrounding area is served by two main railway lines passing North and South of the Town. The north line runs from Ashford to Victoria passing through Hollingbourne, Bearsted, Maidstone East, Barming and West Malling. The line to the south runs from Ashford to Charing Cross via Tonbridge and Sevenoaks and popular local stations for commuters are Headcorn, Staplehurst, Marden and Paddock Wood.

High Speed Trains and Eurostar. A high speed train service operates from various parts of North Kent with the service from Ashford then making use of the High Speed line to St Pancras in about 38 minutes! For services to Europe trains operate from St Pancras International with some services stopping at Ebbsfleet International and occasionally at Ashford International.

Buses

A good ‘bus service operates around the town centre and villages with the most prominent operator being Arriva. http://www.arrivabus.co.uk/south-east/timetables/?q=Maidstone

Places of Interest

Maidstone and the County of Kent as a whole has, like much of the UK, a wealth of history. Places of interest range from the numerous coastal ports to the inland castles at Leeds and Dover to name just two and there are no shortage of National Trust properties to visit. The County has an abundance of beautiful properties scattered around the countryside including timber framed hall houses and iconic Oasthouses. Farmers markets are a frequent attraction and the http://www.visitkent.co.uk website will guide you to Kent’s best attractions. On top of this, London is only a short drive or train journey away.

Sport

There are an abundance of sporting facilities and opportunities in the area with local teams to join in all the major sports such as football, rugby, hockey and cricket, the latter being popular as many villages seem able to support a team. There is no shortage of golf courses with the Kent Coast offering many fine Championship Links courses. Motor racing at Brands Hatch is popular with spectators and there is no shortage of sailing opportunities around the coast and on inland reservoirs.
